BOM Structure Proposal for Troycor

As a process engineer, learning the process of your area, solving the issues and create a new process that will improve the overall output of the plant is fascinating. But how will you do the improvements if the root cause of the problem is too difficult to resolve.

Engineering team in Troycor (including 4 Process Engineers) study the whole process of the plant, we discuss every ideas we have, we share our knowledge we know. And in our studies, one of the root cause of the problems is the BOM Structure.

So as you can see, it is "Prepared by: James Anthony Valencia" (Yes its me.) because before we can even finish the concept of the project, one by one 3 process engineers quit their job. :(

Upon conceptualizing every ideas that my teammates shared, I came out on changing the BOM structure we have. We are using SAP Business One as our System in Troycor, were structure of the BOM is very critical. One mistake might lead to redundancy of the materials or losing materials in our inventory.

Simple diagram that explains on how the BOM structure should be. The breakdown of the product from whole finished product up to the raw materials needed.

Below is an example of what are the differences between the two structures. In the current structure, as you can see, it is divided into two parts; the main frame and the other parts needed to assemble the product, no matter what process it will go through it will only have two divisions. On the proposed structure, from the main product, parts are break down into several stations where the process is different from the others, this way workers will know what process will be next.
